Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 11, 2026

Tock's Chess is built for children ages 4–7, so we keep things simple and private. We do not ask for personal details from you or your child. In the United States, we collect a small amount of first-party usage information about app screens, learning progress, puzzle attempts, and purchase-flow events so we can find the lessons children get stuck on and improve them.

What we collect

No personal details. Tock's Chess does not ask for a name, email address, phone number, photo, or location. There are no accounts to create, no logins, and no text fields to type into anywhere in the app.

First-party usage information. In the United States, we collect which screens are opened, which puzzles are attempted and finished, and how many wrong moves or hints a puzzle took. This is described in full below.

Where your child's progress is stored

Your child's learning progress — which pieces they've met, which games they've played, and which characters they've collected — is stored in two places, both under your control: on your device, and as a private backup in your family's own iCloud account so progress isn't lost if the device is replaced.

The iCloud backup uses Apple's CloudKit private database — the same technology behind apps that sync your own notes to your own iCloud. It is scoped to your individual iCloud account and we cannot read, query, or export it. Nobody at Tock Chess LLC can see this data — there is no dashboard and no way for us to look it up. If the device isn't signed into iCloud, the app works normally with local storage only.

Deleting your data

Delete the app to remove on-device progress. To also remove the iCloud backup copy: Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → "Tock’s Chess" → Delete. Or email us and we'll walk you through it — we can't do it remotely, because we have no access to your iCloud account.

For the anonymous usage information: tapping Reset All Progress in the Grown-Ups area replaces the random code, so nothing sent afterwards can be connected to anything sent before. Everything already collected is deleted automatically after 13 months.

How we improve the app

To find out where children get stuck, the app sends us a small amount of information about how it is used. This is ours alone — there is no third-party analytics company involved, no advertising software, and no data broker. Nothing is shared with anyone.

What is sent:

What is never sent:

The information is labelled with a random code created when the app is installed. That code is not connected to you, your device, or your Apple ID, and it means nothing outside our own records. Tapping "Reset All Progress" in the Grown-Ups area replaces it, which breaks the link to anything sent before.

This first-party usage collection currently runs only in the United States. Outside the United States, the app stores progress on-device and in your family's private iCloud backup as described above, but does not send this usage information to us. We keep usage information for 13 months and then delete it.

No ads, no tracking

Tock's Chess contains no third-party advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking software. We do not build profiles of children, we do not use cookies, and we do not share information with data brokers or advertisers. The usage information described above is used only to maintain and improve the app — never to contact anyone, target anything, or follow anyone across other apps or websites.

Purchases

Tock's Chess offers optional purchases that unlock additional content — subscriptions and a one-time lifetime unlock. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see or store your payment details. Apple's handling of your purchase is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Links and outside content

Any links intended for grown-ups (such as managing a subscription) lead to Apple or to this website, and in the app they sit behind a grown-ups-only gate. Tock Chess does not contain a web browser or open third-party websites within the app for children.

This website

When you visit tockchess.com, we count the visit ourselves — the same first-party approach as the app, with no analytics company involved. Our server records which page was viewed, the website that linked here (just its name, never the full address), a country code, and the date — never a time of day. It uses no cookies, and it stores nothing that could identify you or your device: no IP address, no browser details, no visitor ID of any kind. If you tap the App Store button, we count that tap the same way. Records are deleted automatically after 13 months.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change how the app handles information, we will update this page and revise the date above.
